Google tools

Firstly my experience of Google Docs. I use this all the time - its a terrific resource for when I need to back up work. I use it a lot for study, I'm paranoid that I'll lose my eee pc or, that files will crash, so I save all my essays on google docs. I've also used it for collaboration at work - where a group of people from partner organizations contributed to a funding application.

Secondly, I had a look at Google Books. That's an interesting way to while away the time. It doesn't do it for all books, but for some it shows you a map of locations that are mentioned in a book. I checked that for a Melbourne based book called The Slap that I read recently, but they didn't have the map bits. It also brings up online reviews for the books, and other online references such as in wikipedia. Some books have a preview too.

Walk on over to my place

I had a look at google maps, and followed the task which required us to get directions from work to home. Here are walking directions to my place - follow the map and I'll make you a cup of tea.

igoogleing

I spent a while today setting up my igoogle page. I played with it some time ago, but didn't find it useful. Now I've spent more time incoproating my gmail, google calander, facebook, google maps and bookmarks. I'm afraid I spnet way too long chosing a graphic background - all those choices messed with my head. As part of the process I've been looking at my colleague's blogs and checking their tips on how to use i-google. I enjoy learning by looking at what others have done, and using a bit of trail and error to get things right. My next step for igoogle will be to get my most pratical links in there, and some RSS feeds. The main function for this will be a bit more automation in getting the tools I need in easy reach, and no that it is set as my homepage that has started to happen. Also had a look at Oprah's video on working at google - yes, nice.
